Bryan Ortiz is an artist based in Charlottesville, Virginia with roots in Southern California and Central/Southern Mexico. Ortiz works in paint, drawing, collage, sound, and installation to engage with memories, media, and objects connected to personal, political, and cultural histories.
He has exhibited work at the Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh, PA; Secretariade Arte y Cultura, San Andres Cholula, Puebla, Mexico; Luckman Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Visible Records, Charlottesville, VA; Thompson Library Gallery, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH; East Lubbock Art House, Lubbock, TX; Rhizome DC, Washington, D.C. and Cocina de Humo Gallery, Puebla, Mexico, among others.
He is a member of the transborder artist collective, Colectivo Rasquache and co-founder of the performance activist group Taco Reparations Brigade based in Columbus, Ohio.
Ortiz has held teaching positions at Colorado College and The Ohio State University. He is currently the Assistant Director of Visible Records, an artist-run gallery, studios, residency, and community organizing space in Charlottesville, Virginia.
